Montgomery County Public Schools Television Launches in High-Definition on Comcast’s Xfinity Channel 1071
Montgomery County Public Schools Television (MCPS-TV) is now broadcasting in high-definition (HD) through cable service provider, Comcast, as of Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Members of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) community and Xfinity customers can access MCPS-TV programs in HD on Xfinity Channel 1071, as well as in standard definition on Xfinity Channel 34.
“We are excited to officially broadcast MCPS-TV produced programs and other educational programming for the MCPS community in high-definition through Comcast,” said Dr. Dick Lipsky, supervisor of MCPS-TV. “Our ability to acquire an HD channel demonstrates our commitment to serving MCPS students, parents and staff.”
Gail Roper, Montgomery County's Chief Information Officer, says she’s proud of the county’s role in allocating the Comcast HD channel to MCPS. “The Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions (TEBS) department is dedicated to connecting residents to the technologies that enhance their lives—whether it's lightning fast fiber, affordable broadband options, or in this case, local cable TV content representing one of the most trusted, reliable and easily accessible ways for residents to get information.”
The HD channel is an addition to MCPS-TV’s current cable channels: Comcast 34, Verizon 36, RCN 89 and RCN 1058 HD.
MCPS-TV is a three-time Emmy winning local television station that provides video production, programming and digital services for the school system. MCPS-TV live broadcasts the Montgomery County Board of Education meetings, the superintendent’s media briefings, and other community programming. MCPS-TV is a member of Connect Montgomery Alliance, a network comprised of seven Public, Education and Government (PEG) TV channels that brings relevant news, programming and information to residents in Montgomery County, Md.
