Twenty-third Student Member of the Board of Education Takes Office

Christopher Lloyd, an 11th grade student enrolled in the Leadership Training Institute at John F. Kennedy High School, was sworn in as the 23rd student member of the Board of Education at a ceremony yesterday (Thursday, July 6) at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville.

Lloyd is an honor roll student and has received the W.E.B. DuBois Talented Tenth Award for Academic Excellence and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for leadership and community service. A member of his school's cross country and wrestling teams, he earned a varsity letter for outdoor track. Mr. Lloyd is a staff writer for his school newspaper, The New Frontier, and a former class representative to the Student Government Association. He has expressed strong support for programs that involve parents and community in student education and that keep students informed and engaged in school system issues.

Lloyd will serve a one year term of office.
