What training do we provide to lunch hour aides?

Question#: 24

ANSWER:

Lunch hour aides are provided school-based training on expectations and responsibilities to ensure safe school environments for all children. Schools review the guidelines for supervision of children and safety rules for play during pre-service and throughout the year. Most schools have regularly scheduled meetings with lunch hour aides to review these expectations, address concerns, and gather feedback on processes. The Playground Procedures:  Recess Procedures for Playground Aides provides guidance on playground safety, and procedures for administrators, teachers, and lunch hour aides who supervise playground activity, and recommendations for making existing playgrounds safer. In addition, all school-based staff, including lunch hour aides, are required to participate in annual training on fire and safety drills, and responding to medical emergencies.
