Yes, a coordinator position is budgeted for the new Early Childhood Center.  The coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the Early Childhood Center including providing educational leadership for students, parents, and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community.

The coordinator—

  • works in concert with affiliated elementary school principals, staff, and parents; staff from the Maryland State Department of Education; and internally with division staff and MCPS offices. Responsibilities include:  coordinating high-quality early childhood programming for a diverse population of income-eligible prekindergarten children and families; and ensuring delivery of comprehensive early childhood education services for children, including children with disabilities, ages three through four years old;
  • develops and prepares a School Improvement Plan and professional development in collaboration with staff and parents; fosters professional learning communities; and facilitates job-embedded staff development;
  • works in collaboration with teachers and community partners to support the goal of building staff capacity to meet systemwide and local school initiatives to increase student learning and school readiness;
  • assists with hiring employees and evaluating staff; and
  • works in conjunction with the offices of Special Education, Student and Family Support and Engagement, Shared Accountability, Curriculum and Instructional Programs, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Operating Officer, School Support and Improvement, and other MCPS offices to support school readiness and student achievement.
