The Language Assistance Services Unit (LASU), in the Department of Communications, is responsible for systemwide translation (printed word) and interpretation (spoken word) support. In FY 2018, LASU translated a total of 12,073 pages in six different languages (Amharic, French, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, and Vietnamese). For the current fiscal year, as of January 29, 2019, LASU has translated 9,512 pages in seven different languages (Amharic, French, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Thai).

In FY 2018, LASU provided interpretation services for 16,232 meetings in 73 different languages. For the current fiscal year, as of January 29, 2019, LASU has received 9,743 requests for interpretation support for meetings in 71 different languages.
