Please provide a technology inventory by school (e.g., Chromebooks, Promethean boards).

Question#: 22

ANSWER:

Based on the latest information available to the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), inventories of mobile devices (Attachment A) and interactive panels (Attachment B) in our schools are attached.

Additional information

  • The mobile device inventory includes the combined count of Chromebooks, tablets, and iPads.
  • Within two years, 140,000 Chromebooks will no longer receive updates to their operating systems. While they may still be working devices, they may no longer be used for high stakes testing, including Montgomery County Assessment Program. OCTO staff is working to replace these aging devices with new devices. Provisioning of these technologies is dependent on available funding.
  • A survey was administered in May 2019, to all elementary school principals to determine how many additional interactive panels (Promethean or newer, slightly smaller panels) would be necessary at each elementary school to ensure 100 percent coverage for all learning spaces, including small classrooms and conference rooms where Promethean technologies were too large to be appropriate. Based on survey responses, an additional 600 boards have been requested by elementary schools to ensure complete coverage. Provisioning of these technologies is dependent on available funding.
  • Between October 2019 and August 2020, OCTO staff is working to provision interactive panels to high schools to ensure all learning spaces contain interactive technologies. Provisioning of these technologies is dependent on available funding.
