Please provide information regarding virtual learning and the Montgomery Virtual Academy including (1) what will happen with the Virtual Academy in the coming year and (2) what are plans for staffing and budgeting for the Virtual Academy for the years to come?

Question#: 5

ANSWER:

The Virtual Academy will continue as we move into the 2022–2023 school year. There are several multi-stakeholder work groups planning enhancements, staffing, and budgeting.

The Recommended Fiscal Year 2023 Operating Budget includes funding for the Montgomery Virtual Academy positions that are not enrollment-based. The positions that are based on enrollment and staffing guidelines will be supported through the K–12 budget for elementary, middle, and high schools based on enrollment projections.  Also, funds have been allocated through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, or ESSER III, to supplement additional staffing or funding that may be necessary.

A presentation to the Board on the future of the Montgomery Virtual Academy, as well as the expansion of digital learning, is scheduled for March 2022.
