SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general direction, the coordinator develops, maintains and uses an education/business database of volunteers to enhance classroom instruction. Work of the class involves networking within the education/business community, teacher, and other professional arenas to provide the requested resource bank assistance for MCPS school system to enhance and support the curriculum. The coordinator maintains the resource bank database and prepares monthly and annual reports. The coordinator oversees the booking, arranging and coordinating for specific requested engagements. The coordinator visits schools to evaluate speakers and to recruit new participants. The coordinator gives presentations to the community, administration, and schools to increase participation in the resource bank and increase use of services provided. The coordinator promotes and markets the program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: General knowledge of Montgomery County, the MCPS curriculum, and Montgomery County volunteer resources network: ability to translate education needs to businesses and professionals; and to find appropriate persons or resources to respond to teacher requests. Ability to exercise considerable judgment and initiative in completing assigned duties under general supervisory direction. Excellent written and oral communication and human relations skills required. Basic interviewing and job placement skills required. Ability to supervise the work of clerical and volunteer staff, including training them in the use of the database required. Working knowledge of word and data processing skills, including, in particular, knowledge of Microsoft ACCESS required. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree required. Bachelors degree preferred. Coursework in statistics, business administration, and data processing. Three years experience working with database software such as Microsoft ACCESS. Considerable experience working with the public, in volunteer recruitment and placement, marketing, and networking. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops contacts in the educational, professional and business communities to recruit volunteer speakers for classrooms.

Provides help to teachers requesting resources through the database.

Determines appropriate resources to fill requests when not available in the bank, and locates those resources through contacts with area businesses, government agencies, universities and community based organizations.

Interviews resource providers to determine skill levels of individuals to be listed and determines most appropriate placement within the database.

Contacts resources for follow-up when they have not been contacted or used by the system recently.

Enters resource data, maintains and updates database.

Networks and gives presentations to MCPS staff and the community to develop new demands for service and new resources.

Recruits, trains, and oversees efforts of adult and student volunteer staff to maintain resource bank efforts.

Prepares resource bank forms, letters and marketing materials to use in MCPS and the community.

Performs related work as assigned.
