OFFICIAL TITLE: Transactions Assistant I CODE: 4480 SQ/OQ: Optimal Qualified
WORKING TITLE: Transactions Assistant: Position and Salary GRADE: 16-17 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs clerical work processing human resource, payroll, insurance and retirement transactions for the purpose of updating and correcting employee records, answering and responding to phone inquiries as well as walk-in traffic. Work of this class involves the ability to apply detailed understanding of MCPS policies, regulations and procedures, understanding of negotiated contracts, and understanding of the different transactions that affect an employees record. An employee in this class must have the ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers, and accurately calculate and enter data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of human resource, payroll, insurance and retirement policies, regulations and procedures. Operational knowledge to resolve questions and problems from internal and external customers. Working knowledge of MCPS policies, federal and state laws, negotiated agreements, benefit coverage, etc. Ability to perform a wide range of standard office clerical tasks quickly, accurately and efficiently. Ability to meet and adhere to set deadlines. Ability to utilize office technology effectively including proficient use of Microsoft Office applications. Excellent human relations skills, oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle high volume of employee inquiries daily telephone calls, walk-in traffic and correspondence requirements. Sensitivity to confidential private employee information. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree in human resources or related field plus two years of progressively more responsible human resources or related experience processing payroll, benefits, and leave preferred. Experience working in Montgomery County Public Schools or other public human resources administration or educational institution. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Position requires the ability to operate PC's and related office equipment for sustained periods of time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Processes human resource transactions such as new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, retirements, higher level assignments, temporary part time, substitute assignments etc.

Ensures that all data entry into the HRIS Lawson system is accurate; checks and verifies transactions, input and output reports, researches errors, corrects data and clear up discrepancies, etc.

Assist position and salary administration specialist in more complex transactions that included retro pay adjustments and historical corrections.

Collaborates with the Office of Human Resources and Development to assure employee transactions are being processed in a timely and accurate manner.

Analyzes transactions to ensure that position and salary administration rules, payrate guidelines are being followed.

Works with school staff to resolve issues related to time and attendance, payroll, and employee payments.

Receives and completes employee researches and verification letters using current and legacy HR system.

Operates and maintains scanning process and document storage.

Provides strong customer service for internal and external customers, both oral and written communications. Responds to a high volume of employee inquiries regarding human resource, leave, payroll, and insurance and retirement issues.

Provides call center support as needed.

Performs related tasks as required.
