WORKING TITLE: Special Projects Coordinator, DCI GRADE: 25 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, performs specialized and responsible work involving system wide initiatives promoting responsible use of biotechnology tools, equipment and lab modules for student learning related to Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) curriculum. Has major responsibility for projects such as lab management, equipment inventory, module development and piloting of experimental protocols for teacher and student use. Seeks and administers outside resources , and resources for biotechnology projects and events, including professional development. Supports execution of strategic plans supported by STE grant funding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of biotechnology tools, equipment and lab management. Excellent communications and human relations skills. Ability to effectively develop and disseminate materials, supplies and resources to schools based on their needs related to curriculum content. Ability to supervise student interns to effectively and safely carry out the strategic plan supported by STE grant funding.Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Biological or chemical sciences or biotechnology. 3- 5 years of experience in relevant research experience or life sciences industry. Considerable lab experience in molecular biology techniques and hands-on experiments, good trouble shooting capabilities, excellent organizational and time management skills, flexibility to handle a variety of tasks, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring the lifting and moving of heavy objects and to perform related strenuous labor.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to travel to schools and other offices on frequent and unscheduled basis.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates all activities and assignments for the DNA Resource Center.

Designs and facilitates professional development to insure that lab protocols are conducted in accordance safe practices and aligned with course content.

Develops internship schedules and monitors interns progress to assure resources are available to schools based on their needs.

Collaborates with STE content specialists, STE coordinator and STE Supervisor to determine module needs and strategic plan.

Inventories equipment, distributes material requests, and disseminates resources as needed.Collaborates with STE grant accountant to order supplies.

Advises on the creation of new biotechnology modules to support the STE vision.Troubleshooting lab experiments, ordering and maintaining lab supplies and reagents.

Design and execute experiments to enhance STE instruction. Provide technical support to teachers implementing kits.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
