WORKING TITLE: Video Services Technician II GRADE: 12 MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under general supervision, performs technical instructional equipment support work. Work of the class involves duplicating videotape requests from schools and administrative offices; recording off-air television programs and maintaining the operational procedures of the video duplication room. Work requires observance of copyright laws and fair-use guidelines regarding cablecasting and duplication rights.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of videotape and Super-VHS equipment including three quarter inch master video recorders and playbacks; DVD recorders and playbacks; correctors and video routing switchers; digital video cassette recorders; triple deck duplicators; duplication techniques and practices; copyright laws; and off-air recording procedures. Knowledge of video library ordering, booking, and duplication procedures. Ability to perform preventive maintenance and minor repair on videotape equipment. Ability to work effectively with media center personnel, central office staff and others on video duplication matters. Ability to organize and maintain the operational procedures of the duplicating and off-air recording room. Skill in the duplication of videotapes and off-air videotape recording. Excellent human relations and communication skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma required. Coursework or training in the use and operation of video duplication and television equipment. Experience in the use of videotape, S-VHS, DVD and digital recording and duplicating equipment including the maintenance and minor repair of such equipment. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Must be able to move television equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. Frequent bending and squatting required. Ability to work in fully air conditioned room all year round.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Ability to work a flexible schedule.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organizes and maintains the operational procedures of the video duplicating and off-air recording room.

2. Duplicates videotape requests from schools and central and video library.

3. Records master tapes for cablecasting on all MCPS cable channels and other distribution purposes.

4. Records off-air television programs requested by schools and central offices.

5. Sorts and processes in-coming videotape duplicating requests.

6. Selects and maintains all the VHS and Master tapes stored in the duplicating room.

7. Inspects and makes minor repairs and adjustments to video equipment, as needed.

8. Prepares monthly videotape circulation statistical reports.

9. Provides technical assistance to teaching and media staff relative to videotaping and duplication matters.

10. Supervises part-time personnel who occasionally assist in videotape recording/duplicating activities.

11. Fills in for the unit supervisor, as required.

12. Performs other related work as required.
