One MCPS graduating senior has been recognized this week as a U.S. Presidential Scholar. Saanika Mahashetty of Richard Montgomery High School is among five scholars from the state of Maryland.

Mahashetty was chosen by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars based on academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as community service, leadership and commitment to high ideals.

The honored students were asked to select their most influential teacher.

Mahashetty chose Carmen Gonzalez-Pescador, Spanish teacher at Richard Montgomery.
