A Needs-Based Budget Recommendation Focused on Moving Past COVID-19 Impacts

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Monifa B. McKnight invites the media to a school visit on Wednesday, Dec. 21 to discuss her proposed $3.2 billion Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Operating Budget.

The proposed budget is a $235.4 million increase (8%) from FY 2023. The additional funding would provide salary increases for teachers and staff to recruit and retain a talented workforce, and also looks to expand innovative programs like dual language, innovative calendar schools and early childhood learning. The budget also looks to expand opportunities for college, career and community readiness including through a focus on providing support to first generation, low-income students.

The school tour will take place at a dual language school – a major investment area in the proposed budget.

WHAT: School visit and opportunity for interviews with MCPS Superintendent, Dr. Monifa B. McKnight on the FY 2024 proposed budget. School tour from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m.; media availability for questions at 10:15 a.m.
