Student Service Fellows

December 3, 1999
The Maryland Student Service Alliance (MSSA) and the Maryland State Department of Education will induct the 8th class of Service-Learning Fellows in the spring of 2000, adding fifteen new fellows to the 94 fellows active in the current state program. Service-Learning Fellows are Maryland school-based educators (primarily teachers and guidance counselors) who design and run outstanding service-learning programs that meet Maryland's seven best practices for service-learning.

Fellows receive a one-time cash award and recognition from the state superintendent of schools. In return, fellows share their service-learning energy and expertise with their peers. Fellows work with MSSA and their local school systems by training teachers, writing service-learning curriculum, and participating on advisory boards, etc. Additionally, current MCPS fellows have presented at local, regional, and national service-learning conferences.

All applications will be reviewed locally and selected applications will be forwarded to MSSA for review. New fellows will be announced in late January 2000.

For questions and requests for applications, contact to Kris Leary via FirstClass or at 301-517-8225. Completed applications are due by December 10, 1999 to Kris Leary, Room 241, CESC.
