2nd Graders Post 5th Year in a Row of Higher CTBS Scores

Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jerry D. Weast will hold a news conference on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 to highlight the fifth consecutive year of higher CTBS test scores for second graders and the continued narrowing of the achievement gap. In fact, African American and Hispanic Students’ scores increased 17 to 20 percentage points over five years, a new report shows.

The event will take place at Oakland Terrace Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2005.

Among those attending the press conference will be County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, Board of Education President Patricia B. O’Neill, Councilmember Nancy Floreen, other county officials, leaders of MCPS employee associations, and PTA representatives.
