MCT Federal Credit Union Awards Scholarships

August 9, 2005
Five young people who are members of the MCT Federal Credit Union have each been awarded $1,500 Bill Teel Memorial Scholarships by the MCT Federal Credit Union for the upcoming school year.

The scholarship winners were selected from a field of more than 50 applicants.

All candidates submitted essays that explain how their education would help them pursue their career dreams. These essays, plus their record of community and in-school volunteer service, were considered in the selection process.

Winners from Montgomery County Public Schools are:

Haris Khan, a graduate of Damascus High School, is majoring in both criminology and criminal justice and government and politics at the University of Maryland.

Anne Lyons graduated from Thomas Wootton High School and will attend Boston College in the fall.

Alex Mitchell, a graduate of Damascus High School, will return to Colorado State University as a junior to continue his pre-med and sociology studies.

Sarah Monson, a 2005 graduate of Damascus High School, will attend Brigham Young University to obtain a degree in elementary education.

A private school student also received a scholarship:

Rebecca Bryant graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and will attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

The Bill Teel Memorial Scholarships are named for the man who was the driving force behind making students in Montgomery County eligible to join the credit union. Teel, who passed away 14 years ago, was the data processing manager at MCT Federal Credit Union for many years and at one time was also the acting president and CEO of the organization.
