Governor To Visit Rock Creek Forest Elementary School

State Leaders Unveil this Year’s Goal for the Chesapeake Bay Fund and
Promote Efforts it Supports, including Environmental Education Initiatives like GreenKids


Governor Martin O’Malley and Comptroller Peter Franchot will join Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, Board of Education President Nancy Navarro, and Chesapeake Bay Trust (CBT) Executive Director David O’Neill at a press event to highlight the importance of the state tax checkoff to support the Chesapeake Bay and environmental education programs. The event will take place on Thursday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the media center at Rock Creek Forest Elementary School.

The GreenKids Program, a partnership between Montgomery County Public Schools and the Audubon Naturalist Society, is funded through a CBT grant.The program provides students and teachers with resources, funding, and field trips that foster environmental stewardship at local public schools.

During this event, elementary school students will host a hands-on, interactive learning demonstration with their “Enviroscape” to show what they have learned through the GreenKids program about how water becomes polluted when it travels over land, streets, yards, farms, and industrial areas.
