Nancy Navarro To Receive Hispanic Hero Award

The U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE) organization has selected Nancy Navarro, president of the Montgomery County Board of Education, as the 2007 Hispanic Hero Award winner for education. She will be honored, along with five other notable Hispanic award winners, at a ceremony on June 7 at the Living Classroom Foundation in Baltimore. This is the inaugural year for the Hispanic Hero awards.

Mrs. Navarro has been a member of the Montgomery County Board of Education since 2004 and is currently serving a one-year term as president. She is a co-founder of Centro Familia, a nonprofit community-based organization whose mission is to assist the economic and educational development of Latino and other immigrant communities. Mrs. Navarro is the recipient of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County Leadership Award and the Maryland State Department of Education "Women Who Dare" Leadership Award, among other recognitions.

USHYEE, in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, the Hispanic College Fund, public and private partnerships, school districts, and college and universities, provides Hispanic youth with opportunities leading to colleges and successful careers. The organization sponsors the Maryland Hispanic Youth Symposium and the Hispanic Youth Achievement Forum.
