Police Search for Suspect Grabbing Students

February 16, 2000
The Montgomery County Department of Police have asked for the assistance of the Montgomery County Public Schools in informing parents, students, and staff about a series of incidents in which a man has grabbed or approached children on their way to and from school.

Seven incidents have occurred over the past several weeks involving students from Cabin John, Herbert Hoover, Thomas Pyle, and Julius West middle schools and North Chevy Chase elementary school. No one has been injured. Although the incidents appear to be located in Rockville, Bethesda, and Potomac areas, police are concerned that the incidents may occur in other communities.

In each of the incidents, the appearance of the suspect is similar. He is described as a white male in his 30's, six feet tall, medium build, with dirty blond or reddish hair. He has a thin chin beard or goatee. He may be driving a light color (beige or white) pick-up truck with an open bed and patches of rust.

Police have asked for public assistance. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call the Montgomery County Family Services Division at 240-773-5400. Any one who observes this suspect or any suspicious activity around their school or community should call 911.

This composite drawing of the suspect (see linl below) in the recent incidents involving students being grabbed or approached by an unknown assailant is provided by the police department.
