News Media Invited to Tour New Richard Montgomery High School on the Day Before Students Arrive

Principal Moreno Carrasco Will Highlight Features of the $86.7 Million Facility

Principal Moreno Carrasco will lead a tour of the new Richard Montgomery High School facility beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2. School faculty and administration have spent much of winter break moving into the new building, which will open for students on Thursday, January 3.

Mr. Carasco will highlight the features of the $86.7 million facility, which include advanced classroom technology and geothermal heating and cooling capability. Core capacity of the building is 2,400 students, with approximately 1,900 students currently enrolled.

This is the first “side-by-side” construction project in Montgomery County Public Schools since Walt Whitman High School in 1992, in which an entire new school was built on or adjacent to the grounds of an existing school while that school was fully operational. The two-year construction began in November 2005. The old building will be demolished in late January or early February to make room for athletic fields, which are slated for completion in approximately 6 months.
