New Lineup of Free Workshops at MCPS Parent Academy

January 7, 2008
The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Parent Academy is accepting registrations for the winter session of workshops for parents of MCPS students. The latest schedule for January and February features new workshops, as well as popular favorites from the fall session. Workshops are free and held at schools and familiar locations throughout Montgomery County.

The Parent Academy was formed in response to parents who wanted to have information and strategies for becoming more involved in their child's education and helping their children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The academy is designed to foster active two-way communication between home and school and build leadership skills so that parents can be full partners and advocates in their children’s education.

Among the topics for the upcoming winter session are:
Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet
Understanding the Special Education Process
How Parents at Your School Share in Decision Making
Helping Your Child Develop Good Study and Organizational Skills
Preparing Strategically for College and Careers

There are several ways to register. Call 301-517-5940 or 301-279-3100, or download a registration form from the web site and fax it to 301-279-3815. Forms also can be mailed to the Division of Family and Community Partnerships, 451 Hungerford Drive, Suite 508, Rockville, MD 20850.

The full schedule of workshops for January and February is available on the Parent Academy web site.
