Springbrook Coach Named Gymnastics National Coach of the Year

Jack Leonard, physical education teacher at Jackson Road Elementary School and girls’ gymnastics coach at Springbrook High School, has been named National Coach of the Year by the National High School Gymnastics Coaches Association. He also received this award in 1981.

Coach Leonard has coached gymnastics in elementary, middle, and high schools and at the collegiate level. He has coached in Montgomery County Public Schools for 21 seasons as a boys’ coach and 17 seasons as a girls’ coach. He has been liaison to the National Gymnastics Championships since 1988 and has written articles on gymnastics and promoted the sport on both radio and television.

Leonard has been named Montgomery County Coach of the Year seven times. As head coach at Springbrook High School, Leonard has led his teams to All-American status ten times. In addition, 19 of his gymnasts have been named high school All-Americans, and 21 of his gymnasts have become Montgomery County champions.

Leonard is a 1968 graduate of Albert Einstein High School and was an award-winning member of the men’s gymnastics team at Ohio State University.
