Board of Education’s 2025 Legislative Platform: Support, Safety, and Success for All Students
The Montgomery County Board of Education’s (Board) 2025 Legislative Platform offers a hopeful vision for positive change, ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed. This platform focuses on shared goals and priorities that foster opportunities, celebrate different paths to success, and guarantee all students can learn in safe schools.
“The Board’s 2025 Legislative Priorities represent the challenges and opportunities we experience in MCPS,” said Karla Silvestre, President of the Montgomery County Board of Education. “These priorities can significantly empower districts to further their mission to provide excellent education and learning experiences for every student.”
Grounded in the Board’s mission and purpose, and in alignment with Montgomery County Public Schools’ Strategic Plan, the Legislative Platform emphasizes the shared responsibility of championing student interests and needs. Collaboration, innovation, and versatility are common themes throughout the platform.

During the Board’s Legislative Summit on September 30, members of the Montgomery Delegation learned about the Board's legislative priorities and engaged in discussion about how to best support public education in Montgomery County and the state.
MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Ed.D, M.B.A. joined the Board in delivering the Legislative Platform.
“We believe that every student in our district deserves opportunities to succeed and thrive. We are excited to present the Board’s legislative platform that aligns with these priorities,” said MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor. “We are confident that by working together with our legislative leaders, we will achieve our shared goals and ensure our schools receive the support they need.”
The event is a continuation of our ongoing collaborative efforts that will continue up to and through the 2025 Legislative Session.
