WORKING TITLE: Director, Career Readiness and Innovative Programs GRADE: Q MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, is responsible for the administration of the department, as well as providing leadership for the designing, planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring of countywide and regional career readiness instructional programs to include: Online Learning, Interim Instructional Services, Extended Learning Opportunities, Bridge Projects, Career and Postsecondary Partnerships, Consortia Choice and Application Programs, Foundation Trades Programs, and Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs. Provides leadership and supervision for department staff in program development and implementation as well as responsive improvements through program evaluation and direct supports to schools. Requires presentations to the Board of Education and frequent dialogue with community members, state officials, and media representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the career readiness instructional programs of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); thorough knowledge of educational theory, research-based best practices, the Common Core State Standards as well as other state and national standards. Knowledge of school improvement planning process. Ability to ensure a diverse student population equitable access to curricula and instructional programs. Ability to collect, analyze, and use data for program planning. Ability to support the department¿s vision, promote open communication, and collaboratively problem solve. Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. Ability to use systems thinking to establish clear goals for program development. Writing and technology skills necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making presentations. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, lead, and evaluate large scale projects. Excellent interpersonal skills built on communication and collaboration. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. This position requires the knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP) Professional Growth System (PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree with focus in the area of curriculum and/or administration. Experience as a curriculum supervisor/director, school-based administrator, and/or principal; experience providing leadership in designing, planning, and implementing instructional programs. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and lead a wide range of varied projects in a complex school system.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland state certification requirements for Administrator I. Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I or II, or completion within one-year of the position start date.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Attendance at evening Board of Education meetings, Parent Teacher Association presentations, award ceremonies, and other programs may be required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership of central office staff in the following areas: Online Learning, Interim Instructional Services, Extended Learning Opportunities, Bridge Projects, Career and Postsecondary Partnerships, Consortia Choice and Application Programs, Foundation Trades Programs, and Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs.

Establishes collaborative relationships with other MCPS offices, county agencies, higher education and business partners, as well as the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) that support the mission of the department.

Participates in the selection and evaluation process for department staff; provides the necessary administrative and supervisory functions for appropriate leadership of the department staff.

Develops and manages the MCPS budget related to career readiness instructional program maintenance, development, and improvements.

Works with parent and community groups to solicit feedback and ongoing input in the development and implementation of instruction and programs.

Collaborates with other MCPS offices to ensure implementation of programs and in responding to parent/student appeals.

Collects and utilizes data to inform decisions and monitors department plans.

Collaborates with other offices and schools to develop and implement strategies for students enrolled in programs designed for those not achieving to their potential.

Develops and presents information and programs to the Montgomery County Board of Education, professional staff, and community groups.

Actively promotes research and development to identify new and innovative programs and practices.

Works with community and school groups to build their knowledge of department programs.

Uses creative and critical thinking in department programs, staff management, and problem solving.

Supervises staff workload of all staff members in the department.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
