SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: The Director of Systemwide Equity reports directly to the Chief Equity and Development Officer (CEDO). The Director supervises and directs the work of the Systemwide Equity Unit, and in alignment with the Board of Education’s Strategic Plan, coordinates the district-wide goal of becoming an antiracist, equitable, and inclusive school district where outcomes are not predictable by race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. The director collaborates with senior leadership, leaders from all departments and schools, and stakeholder groups to strategically support system-wide implementation of findings and recommendations from the Antiracist System Audit; and ensures, implements and improves equitable practices across the district. Supports, represents and works collaboratively with the CEDO to develop and improve systemwide strategies to further the mission of the unit. Physical Demands: None. Special Requirements: Attendance at evening Board of Education and other school system meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: A thorough understanding of antiracism, equity, inclusion, and organizational change, and how these concepts and practices relate to Pre-K-12 education. Demonstrated knowledge and experience: implementing a safe and productive organizational culture to co-create antiracist, equitable, and inclusive practices and policies with leaders, staff, students, families, and community members; creating effective adult learning; coaching district and school-based leaders; communicating to diverse audiences; and facilitating groups with diverse experiences and beliefs. Possesses excellent skills in program and personnel evaluation and human relations. Beliefs and actions reflect the mission, vision, and core values of the district. This position requires the knowledge and application of the six leadership standards established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals Administrative and Supervisory Professional Growth System.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational leadership, public administration, or a related field. Five years of administrative and/or supervisory experience required and two years of successful teaching experience, preferably in K-12 education. Training, coursework, and/or experience with antiracism, equity, and inclusion. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License: Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrator I certification. Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching I or II, or completion within one-year of the position start date.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Example Duties: The Director collaborates with senior leadership, leaders from all departments and schools, and stakeholder groups to: strategically support system-wide implementation of findings and recommendations from the Antiracist System Audit, ensuring alignment with MCPS’s antiracist commitments and data-informed continuous improvement practices; identify and dismantle policies and practices that contribute to inequitable and disparate outcomes and experiences for students, staff, and families; create and sustain a systemwide culture where all students, families, and staff feel a sense of belonging, safe, valued, seen, heard, affirmed, and successful, regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, citizenship status, or physical and cognitive abilities; develop, implement, and embed equity centered policies and practices across offices, departments, and schools and establish accountability structures to measure progress and impact; facilitate the use of Racial Equity Impact Assessment tools and equity decision making protocols to evaluate potential equity impacts of policies, budgeting and resource allocations, and programs prior to implementation; works collaboratively with leadership and the Division of Human Resources and Talent Management; identify and disrupt barriers to recruiting, hiring, and retaining a highly qualified and diverse workforce that reflects the demographics and lived experiences of MCPS students; co-design and implement equity-centered tools, resources, data dashboards, and professional learning in partnership with other departments and cross-functional teams to build capacity for sustained antiracist, equitable, and inclusive practices; cultivates a culture of collaboration, care, and unflinching leadership by establishing advisory structures inclusive of, but not limited to student equity councils that amplify student voice and agency and community equity roundtables, that reflect MCPS’s commitment to co-creation and authentic engagement. The Director of Equity manages and is accountable for human, physical, and financial resources with the goal of maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit; directs the completion of program statistics and ensures development of appropriate reports, regulations, and related directives; assists with planning short- and long-term objectives for central services and schools; oversees the recruitment, screening, selection, assignment, supervision, and evaluation of personnel assigned to the unit; provides guidance and assistance to full-time, part-time, and/or hourly employees, as assigned; may serve as point of contact for the Board of Education, public entities, and the business community. Consults with central leadership to design, plan, provide resources, and evaluate professional development to lead for equity; Oversees the Antiracist Audit Steering Committee and coordinates the development and implementation of action steps that result from the audit; Coaches district and school-based leaders to address both acute and long-term challenges on system-wide work groups and project teams as an advocate for the inclusion of antiracist, equitable, and inclusive educational practices; serves as the MCPS representative to local, state, and national organizations and advocacy groups that promote equitable; oversees the ongoing development of communication tools such as the EquityMatters! Newsletter, online modules, Equity Matters Dialogue, and the Equity Initiatives Unit’s webpage. Performs related work as required
