WORKING TITLE: Assistant Director, Department of Facilities Management GRADE: O MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, assists the director, Department of Facilities Management (DFM), in planning, organizing and managing aspects of facilities management that include design and construction, maintenance and operations, planning and real estate, sustainability and compliance, information technology, safety and training, budget, and human resources. Assists the director in coordinating the development of strategic plans and implementation of strategic initiatives for the divisions within DFM. Develops productivity standards, expectations, and measures for facility management strategic assessment models; develops and administers plans for internal process, innovation, and continuous learning improvements; conducts research and develops information on best business practices, and manages the implementation of new techniques for cost effective management systems/processes.Responds to facility issues and other emergency situations requiring senior facilities management staff. Participates in the development of the operating and capital budgets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of supervisor and personnel management practices; business practices/processes utilized in the construction, maintenance, and operation of facilities. Familiarity with capital planning and budgeting processes for facilities planning. Thorough knowledge of strategic planning and quality management process development. Ability to perform work of a detailed nature that requires creative thinking and work under pressure to meet prescribed deadlines. Knowledge of processes/practices used to measure performance and develop systemic improvement models. Excellent technology, organization/time management, communication (written and oral), interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team. Thorough knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Oracle, or similar database management systems. Familiarity with database warehouse operations and data repository concepts. Ability to provide guidance, training, and technical assistance for other staff members in database concepts, features, and operations.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, education, business, or related field; Master's degree preferred. Significant, progressively responsible experience in K-12 facility related fields. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages department activities in the absence of the director.

Assists the director in managing functions of the department, including representing the department at Board of Education, County Council, and other meetings as required.

Assists in preparation of detailed, periodic project analyses and summaries for the Board of Education, superintendent of schools, deputy superintendent, and members of the executive staff.

Assists in the development of project cost and staffing estimates for the Capital Improvements Program (CIP).

Regularly interacts with department staff at all levels.

Supervises an assigned set of managers.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
