WORKING TITLE: Director, Staff Development Teacher Project Team GRADE: P MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, coordinates work related to staff development initiatives, primarily the school-based staff development teacher project, staff development support to schools and offices, and facilitation of high-performing teams at local schools and offices. Supervises the development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of the workshops within the School Leadership Teams Institute. Works directly with the directors of instruction and achievement to align messages and training intended to be taken back into the schools. Works with principals, teachers, staff development teachers, employee associations, and all MCPS offices to coordinate the delivery of priority staff development. Supervises a team of instructional specialists who develop and deliver training as well as provide coaching to staff development teachers and leadership teams in schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of adult learning theory; structures, venues, and strategies for effective professional development; change management; facilitation of high-performing teams; organizational and staff development theories and trends; and curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs. Proven leadership and management ability; strong communication, interpersonal and data analysis skills. Proven skill as a trainer, coach, and facilitator.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's in staff development, educational curriculum, administration, or related field. Five years successful teaching experience and successful experience in staff development or related field. Administrative and supervisory certification and experience. Experience designing and modifying staff development programs; integrating technology into staff development programs; and training in facilitation skills, practices, and techniques.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland state certification requirements for administration/supervision or Administrator or attainable within six months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) None
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Availability to work evenings and weekends to attend meetings, to observe and conduct training, and to attend conferences and other personal professional development events.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads the programs content and strategies designed for school-based staff development teachers.

Collaborates with principals and teachers associations and representatives to ensure effectiveness of training and development.

Designs programs and experiences for school-based staff development teachers.

Coordinates programs and activities for principals and school teams to ensure knowledge base and common language.

Coordinates priorities and the work of the staff development specialists.

Observes and evaluates staff assigned to the team.

Collects and analyzes data to evaluate effectiveness of projects and adjusts programs according to outcomes.

Serves as a member of the associate superintendent's leadership team.

Serves as the account manager for the staff development specialists' projects.

Serves on relevant work groups and task forces.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
