EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors the effective implementation of Board policies and MCPS ESOL/Bilingual program procedures. Recommends new approaches, programs, and techniques. Leads and assists with ESOL, immersion, and two-way immersion program planning, monitoring, professional learning, and evaluation of new and revised material. Provides instructional leadership and assists in obtaining necessary resources for ESOL and two-way immersion school-based staff.Provides support in the development of curriculum as well as identification of student and teacher instructional resources. Recommends goals, policies, and programmatic changes.Coordinates the development and dissemination of reports and information relative to the program for staff, Board of Education, and parents.Observes and/or evaluates the implementation of ESOL and two-way immersion programs.Keeps abreast of local, state, and national developments in order to effect changes in operation; is knowledgeable regarding ongoing and new program development. Reviews recent literature and research studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests changes or modifications to improve existing programs.Prepares annual ESOL and two-way immersion operating budgets with such supporting data as are necessary for clarification to the superintendent and to the Board of Education.Maintains the databases in order to monitor student progress and evaluate program effectiveness. Oversees management of grants, financial accounts, and expenditures.Maintains liaison with MSDE and the ESOL/Bilingual Metro network.Prepares reports to meet local, state, and federal needs.Collaborates with the World Languages unit to ensure smooth programmatic articulation of students. Meets with, and provides supports for, advisory groups and develops community linkages in order to ensure input and support for the development and implementation of programs and services.Supports the development and implementation of a Professional Growth System (PGS) for staff.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
