EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Programs directors, supervisors, and program coordinators to ensure the integration of school library media services, resources, and projects into the educational program systemwide.2. Support technology solutions that streamline processes, support equitable teaching and learning, and engage students and families. 3. Team with appropriate office, department, and division staff to evaluate and use electronic resources, technical services, and hardware to facilitate the retrieval and organization of information and ideas. Collaborate with school principals and administrators to monitor the quality of school library media programs, assess their effectiveness, and provide appropriate technical assistance to ensure continuous improvement. 5. Plan and implement appropriate professional learning opportunities to assist school-based library media staff members in acquiring the skills required to deliver effective instruction, information, and production programs.6. Meet regularly with library media staff members to provide training and to share information about new curriculum and programs.7. Interpret and promote the value of school library media programs to MCPS staff members and the community at large.8. Work with staff members in the Office of Human Resources to interview and screen prospective library media candidates.9. Collaborate with the Department of Facilities Management to ensure current school libraries reflect up-to-date educational specifications and new school libraries are designed with the specifications in mind. Work with operations and maintenance when concerns arise with maintaining school library media centers. 10. Partner with state and local colleges and universities to provide opportunities for MCPS staff members to become certified library media specialists through the institutions' state-approved library media education programs University Partnerships. 11. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Montgomery County Library Board to expand the availability of resources and services to students and staff members by establishing and maintaining partnerships between the schools and the Montgomery County public libraries. 12. In alignment with MCPS' core values, effectively supports work around equitable, culturally responsive instruction with the goal of ensuring academic success is not predictable by race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language proficiency, or disability. 13. Ensures school libraries operate with an Anti-Bias/Antiracist lens when providing instruction; developing library collections; creating programming; implementing library policies and procedures; and designing an inclusive climate.14. Participate in the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Instructional Technology and School Library Media Collaborative to receive MSDE updates, stay abreast of future trends for school libraries and network with school library leaders across Maryland 15. Serve as co-chair on the Media and Technology Labor and Management Committee.16. Performs related duties as assigned.
