EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely and collaboratively with the associate superintendent, Office of Special Education, and director, Department of Special Education Services, to ensure the provision of services for students with disabilities within comprehensive and special school settings. Supervises and evaluates instructional specialists and other Autism Unit staff members. Receives and responds to requests from principals and school-based staff members for support regarding the identification, evaluation, and placement of students with disabilities. Communicates and collaborates with staff members in the Placement and Assessment Services Unit and the Resolution and Compliance Unit. Works closely with school-based and central services staff members and parents/guardians, to identify appropriate academic interventions and strategies to improve the performance outcomes of students with autism spectrum disorders. Works cooperatively with school administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, and the Division of Prekindergarten, Special Programs, and Related Services staff members. Supports schools, parents/guardians, and community efforts to improve the graduation rate of students with disabilities. Provides leadership for a team of instructional specialists and program support staff members to collect, monitor and analyze data related to school-based consultations for students with autism spectrum disorders. Plans and delivers districtwide professional learning opportunities for teachers and paraeducators working with students with autism spectrum disorders. Monitors enrollment in discreet programs serving students with autism spectrum disorders; collaborates with the Division of Business, Fiscal and Information Systems to develop budgets, allocate staffing, and secure necessary resources. Responds verbally and in writing to parent inquiries regarding services to students with autism spectrum disorders. Participates in IEP team meetings as appropriate.Responds to and prepares written correspondence to principals and community members at-large regarding the provision of special education services for students with autism spectrum disorders. Assures that staff members, principals, and teachers are informed of changes in laws, regulations, and policies.Represents the Department of Special Education Services on local and state committees.Participates actively as a member of the leadership team of the associate superintendent, Office of Special Education.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
