EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads the development and monitoring of implementation of the instructional program in the area of assigned responsibility to address local and state mandates and priorities.Plans and manages curricular and instructional improvements and disseminates information about successful practices. Keeps knowledgeable regarding ongoing and new program development. Reviews best practices, recent literature, and research studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests changes or modifications to improve existing programs. Applies information/results of research and studies to instructional program.Leads the development of new and revised curriculum, assessments, and instructional guides to support instructional program in schools and student achievement on national, state and local assessments.Plans and leads countywide meetings of liaison/resource/special teachers in subject field.Supports schools in implementation of program.Analyzes student achievement data to improve instruction, curriculum, assessment, and program.Provides leadership in design and delivery of professional development activities for principals, teachers, and support staff to promote innovative teaching approaches and techniques. Provides support and guidance to in-service instructors and coordinators.Works with specialists and school staff in monitoring and evaluating implementation of the instructional program in the assigned area; advises principals, resource teachers, and classroom teachers regarding instructionally related concerns, problems, and/or adjustments to new situations/curriculum.Supervises the evaluation and selection of textbooks, instructional materials and equipment; collaborates in developing plans for new and renovated facilities; coordinates articulation of curriculum between grade and school levels.Develops proposals for outside funding to support program improvements.Collects data and prepares responses to requests for information; articulates the curriculum and instructional program to the Board, staff, parents, and community; keeps abreast of latest research, developments, and techniques in assigned area; maintains liaison with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), colleges and universities, appropriate professional organizations, and other groups or individuals who influence the quality or direction of the instruction program.Plans and coordinates activities that involve parents, community, and business sector in support of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.Manages special countywide programs, including summer and/or extracurricular activities related to the assigned discipline; makes presentations to interested staff and community groups.Prepares required reports and annual budget requests; manages expenditures and accounts for countywide activities; recommends allocation of grant funds according to need and best utilization; maintains files, records, and/or expenditure controls.Collaborates with other MCPS offices and departments to develop integrated curricular units and assessments.Participates in interviewing, and hiring.Under direction performs other duties as assigned.
