EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees the implementation of the COMAR in Environmental Literacy (13A.04.17.01.c. (4) across the content areas in Prek-12. 2. Assists in the development of environmental education curriculum, especially in regard to Meaningful Watershed Environmental Experiences. 3. Supervises and manages the Grade 6 Systemic Residential Program, the Day Program, and the Maryland Agriculture Education Foundation's mobile lab program in elementary schools. 4. Collaborates regularly with the Department of Sustainability and Compliance on the MCPS Sustainability policy and on growing the Maryland Green School Program and USDE Green Ribbon Program.5. Designs and facilitates the development of outdoor environmental education instructional lessons that support implementation of the MCPS curriculum and prepare students for state and local assessments. 6. Assists in the evaluation of new and existing programs and develop or revise appropriate outdoor environmental education instructional materials.7. Develops and implement outdoor environmental education programs that cultivate students' awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and concern for the natural environment and the effect of people's actions upon it; motivates students to develop positive attitudes toward learning through varied experience in the natural environment; provides students with many direct experiences in using scientific processes, such as observing, measuring, classifying, analyzing, and hypothesizing; making students' regular school program more meaningful by applying the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to real-life situations beyond the classroom. 8. In the grade 6 program promotes team building and personal responsibly as part of a group; improves communication and collaboration skills among students; and fosters relationship building between students and adults. 9. Interprets the outdoor environmental education program and environmental literacy for MCPS staff, parents, parks department, state and federal agencies, and the general public. 10. Plans, coordinates, and supervises outdoor education professional learning including CPD courses and in-service workshops. 11. Develops outdoor environmental education calendar for the year for all schools with Grade 6 students, and for the Day Program. 12. Schedules professional meetings and summer, weekend, and holiday use of the Lathrop Smith Environmental Education Center by MCPS and outside renters. 13. Supervises the development, implementation, and maintenance of residential and day-use outdoor education programs for over 21,000 students annually. 14. Supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned as staff including high school and college interns. 15. Supervises the maintenance of the Lathrop Smith Environmental Education Center and Kingsley Environmental Education Center grounds and facilities to keep them attractive and functional. 16. Negotiates annual agreements for use of outdoor education facilities outside of Montgomery County. 17. Meets regularly with parks department personnel to coordinate programs, develop projects, and resolves potential use conflict to increase learning potential of the Lathrop Smith Environmental Education Center and its surroundings. 18. In alignment with MCPS' core values, effectively supports work around equitable, culturally responsive instruction with the goal of ensuring academic success is not predictable by race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, language proficiency, or disability.19. Implements research-based practices that support the mitigation of learning disruption as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.20. Performs related work as required.
