SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction and in collaboration with Community Montessori Charter School (CMCS) program leadership supports the implementation of a fully-equipped Montessori environment for Pre-K through third grade classes. Cultivates an environment that fosters the success of all students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of a shared vision of excellence in teaching and learning which is firmly grounded in Montessori philosophy. Provides educational guidance to staff and students at the regional site to ensure smooth daily operations. Functions of positions in the classification vary and include establishing a climate conducive to learning, defining roles, planning and coordinating programs, effecting change, and decision-making which are guided by Montessori principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of public school systems, general understanding of policies and procedures, and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), state and federal regulations and laws. Considerable knowledge and understanding of the goals of Montessori education, curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services. Ability to articulate to staff, students, and community the vision of CMCS and the essence of Montessori education. Ability to stimulate community support of the school. Ability to effectively interview and select staff. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate staff. Considerable knowledge of problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively utilize skills to act effectively. Ability to motivate, encourage, and collaborate with staff to ensure outstanding performance as well as good morale. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in early childhood development, elementary school curriculum, educational leadership, or related field. Montessori training at the primary or elementary level is preferred. Familiarity and/or experience with a Montessori school or program. Proven experience or track record of successfully motivating staff and managing resources toward shared goals serving diverse learners, and student assessment strategies. Experience with human resources and development procedures and policies, especially staff management, including but not limited to the recruitment, evaluation, and professional development of teaching faculty and support professionals is preferred. Background in early childhood human development, and working with parents. Considerable outstanding experience appropriate to the position, or a combination of applicable education and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Certificate in supervision and administration, Admin I, preferred. In addition, Maryland certification requirements for Administrator II preferred or the ability to acquire the certification within 18 months of hire if selected. Maryland APC or license for early childhood/elementary teacher or related service required. Completion of (Observing, and Analyzing, Teaching) OAT 1 and/or OAT 2 preferred.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs and coordinates the effective and efficient implementation of the educational and instructional programs in compliance with the Montessori philosophy, the school¿s charter, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Provides guidance to staff on curriculum implementation to ensure that the appropriate content and sequence are followed.

Ensures MCPS policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws are followed.

Designs and implements a master schedule and related duty assignments.

Establish a safe and positive and collaborative school climate, maintaining staff harmony and advocate for the children.

Coordinate the development and implementation of a school discipline policy that is consistent with the MCPS policy on Student Rights and Responsibilities and Maryland State law.

Work with teachers, parents, the parent organization, Crossway Community, Inc., to ensure appropriate integration of programming for all students and families.

Designs and conducts professional development in collaboration with lead agency representatives to meet the instructional and support staff training needs.

Collaborates with CMCS leadership in managing the school¿s fiscal resources responsibly, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and timely reporting of both revenues and expenses as required.

Collaborates with CMCS leadership to ensure content alignment with the Maryland State Department of Education Common Core standards.

Supervise and evaluate staff based on the MCPS established professional growth systems and Montessori pedagogical standard.

Develop requests for staffing and resources.

Prepare a variety of written reports and correspondence.

Interviews and hires MCPS service providers in consultation with CMCS leadership.

Promotes good public relations with MCPS, the Crossway Community Board of Directors, parents, and other community organizations to ensure ongoing, two-way communication and initiate activities which foster productive parent and community involvement.

Represents service providers at transition IEP team meetings and chairs site-based initial eligibility IEP team meetings. Implements all procedures related to OASIS enrollment and IEP development.

Works with MCPS and CMCS leadership to address programmatic issues including implementation of Montessori teaching practices, parental involvement and concerns, data collection, staff professional development, policy/procedures, etc.

Monitors quality and assures completion of eligibility and transition assessments and outcomes data.

Addresses facilities issues at school site and/or works with building administrators to address facilities issues including technology.

Coordinates 12 month calendar scheduling for MCPS service providers and maintains accurate payroll records.

Maintains accurate fiscal records and monitors expenditure of funds for the CMCS leadership.

Collaborates with CMCS leadership to maintain documentation and data collection required by the charter school agreement.

Serve on MCPS, Crossway Community, and other local task forces and committees.

Performs related work as required.
