EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the development and revision of the instrumental music instructional program to address local, state, and national mandates and standards. Works with school-based and central services staff members on implementation of program policies, procedures, curriculum, and professional learning as well as the facilitation of work with district community partner organizations. Collaborates with other MCPS offices, departments, and curriculum coordinators to develop integrated curricular units and assessments.Plans, manages curricular and instructional improvements, and disseminates information about successful practices. Participates in the development of new and revised countywide assessments for instrumental music. Keeps up-to-date regarding research, developments, techniques, and new program development in instrumental music. Reviews recent literature and research studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests changes or modifications to improve existing programs. Plans and leads countywide meetings of instrumental music teachers. Provides leadership in design and delivery of in-service training activities to promote innovative teaching approaches and techniques. Provides support and guidance to in-service instructors and coordinators. Develops and conducts workshops and in-service training. Works with specialists and school staffs in monitoring and evaluating implementation of the instructional program in instrumental music.Advises principals, resource teachers, and classroom teachers regarding instructionally related concerns, problems, and/or adjustments to new situations/curriculum. Supervises the evaluation and selection of textbooks, instructional materials and equipment, collaborates in developing plans for new and renovated facilities; coordinates articulation of curriculum between grade and school levels.Develops proposals for outside funding to support program improvements. Collects data and prepares responses to requests for information; interprets the curriculum and instructional program to the Board, staff, parents, and community; maintains liaison with MSDE, colleges and universities, appropriate professional organizations, and other groups or individuals who influence the quality or direction of the instrumental instructional program. Plans and coordinates activities that involves parents, community, and business sector in support of curriculum/program development, implementation, and evaluation. Manages special countywide instrumental music programs, including extracurricular activities and makes presentations to interested staff and community groups. Prepares required reports and annual budget requests; manages expenditures and accounts for the instrumental program and countywide activities. Recommends allocation of grant funds according to need and best utilization; maintains files, records, and/or expenditure control.Calculates and allocates elementary instrumental music staffing annually. Participates in screening, interviewing, recommending placements, and hiring of instrumental music teachers. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
