MONTGOMERY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLASS DESCRIPTION

WORKING TITLE: Coordinator, Career Programs GRADE: N MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the supervisor, coordinates development, implementation and monitoring of countywide career readiness programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as other identified career programs of study. Provides management and instructional leadership for program design, program implementation, monitoring and assessments in career programs of study including Foundations programs. Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills required. Thorough knowledge of curriculum standards, career pathway programs, and federal and state laws related to career and technology education and program implementation in middle schools and high schools. Duties include program management; proposal, budget, and grant management; and collaboration with school, community, and partner stakeholders for student success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of educational principles, practices, and procedures in career programs of study, design, implementation, management, and monitoring. Expertise in career programs of study including Foundations programs. Ability to manage and assess program needs and budgets and support instructional leadership in various programs. Knowledge of trends in career and technology education and implementation of programs in comprehensive high schools, specialized high schools, and with partner organizations. Excellent oral/written communications and human relations skills. Ability to collaborate with community stakeholders and articulate programs, and develop and maintain partnerships. Knowledge of school-to-career education policy issues and models, curriculum design models, and effective instructional practices.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree and administration & supervision certification required. Five years experience as a teacher or leader in career and technology education or related content area. Administrative experience within the last three years preferred. Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills. Three or more years experience in grant and budget management, program coordination, and monitoring. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills required may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrator I. Completed Observing and Analyzing Teaching I and II or within one year of the position start date. Advanced Professional Certificate in Secondary Education.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Must be able to move material/equipment to and from different training sites. Travel.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Some travel using personal vehicle. Frequent attendance at evening and weekend meetings as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates program development, implementation, assessment, and monitoring in career programs of study in middle and high schools.

Promotes CTE instructional programs of study and develops communication materials.

Provides direction and support to schools, including the Thomas Edison High School of Technology.

Collaborates with leaders and staff from various programs and school staff to ensure cohesive program implementation.

Maintains an expertise regarding ongoing and new program development, and innovative practices. Reviews best practices, recent literature, and research studies and reports.

Develops and facilitates countywide meetings for teachers and leaders career programs.

Coordinates, communicates, and monitors program requirements.

Provides leadership in design and delivery of professional development for administrators, teachers, and support staff to implement science curriculum and assessment.

Advises principals, resource teachers, and classroom teachers to support program implementation, instruction, monitoring, and program review/evaluation.

Supports the evaluation and selection of instructional materials.

Manages grant requirements and programs.

Experience with development and implementation of the Perkins grant.

Develops and maintains post-secondary partnerships.

Works cooperatively as a team member.

Provides vision, leadership, and expertise in program implementation.

Coordinates professional development opportunities.

Maintains partnerships with business/industry representatives in order to ensure that related programs meet industry standards and reflect current practices, procedures, and workforce needs.

Assists with the development of annual plans, budget, and descriptive reports.

Collects data and prepares responses to requests for information.

Works collaboratively with office team, across offices, with schools, and with community partners.

Understands and applies the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).
