SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, leads and coordinates all actions and efforts related to planning, implementing and managing the year-long strategic onboarding processes for all new staff. Using current research and proven best practices, the coordinator manages all onboarding initiatives including new employee orientations and all follow-up induction experiences throughout an employee¿s first year. Development of year-long onboarding cycle of experiences for new hires in all employee associations, scheduling training sessions, oversight of onboarding trainers and evaluating onboarding program efficacy. Collaborates with OHRD leadership to monitor hiring projections and trends and utilizing the trend data to plan for and implement onboarding activities. Continuously evaluates onboarding practices for effectiveness and implement improvements. The coordinator performs a wide variety of professional development roles, including, but not limited to: trainer, coach, consultant, curriculum developer, resource provider, facilitator, project manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of onboarding best practices. Understands and demonstrates highly effective instructional strategies; knowledge of professional development for adult learners. Experience planning, delivering, and monitoring both face-to-face and online professional development for adults; strong and engaging skills as trainer, facilitator, and coach. Interest in and ability to work collaboratively on a high performing team. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, time management, project management, and human relations skills. Strong presentation skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and knowledgeable about current MCPS technology. This position requires the knowledge and application of the performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) and the Administrative and Supervisor Professional Growth System (A&S PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Masters degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on teaching, curriculum, and/or instruction; minimum seven years successful teacher level experience, demonstrated leadership equity, supporting teachers, planning and delivering staff development for adult learners; excellent human relations skills. Extensive experiences in developing, coordinating, and conducting professional learning activities. Experience managing large projects related to human resources and instructional resources and that involve meeting critical deadlines. Experience developing and implementation of in-person training and training via a virtual platform. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Holds a current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area. Must have completed SST1, OAT I and OAT II or work toward the completion within one year of the position start date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Must be able to move materials/equipment to and from different training sites.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent need to shift schedule to accommodate training after hours and on weekends. May be required to attend evening Board of Education meetings.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans year-long onboarding experience for new employees from all employee associations.
Utilizes current research and best practices to support the development of robust and meaningful onboarding experiences for all new employees.
Serves as the project manager for all onboarding programs.
Ensures that all activities and training experiences explicitly reinforce values, culture, actions and language that are anti-racist.
Analyzes hiring data trends to establish an onboarding cycle of experiences that can be initiated as hiring occurs.
Collaborates with other offices and teams to support and provide professional learning related to system initiatives.
Assists new employees in learning new MCPS roles and adjusting to MCPS culture.
Monitors employee satisfaction throughout the onboarding cycle and utilizes the feedback to revise the program as needed.
Monitors employee retention after the onboarding experience.
Engages with system leaders to inform the onboarding training to ensure the new employee preparation aligns with system, school and office needs.
Identifies and oversees trainers that support the onboarding professional development.
Facilitates development of job-alike colleague networking opportunities.
Serves as a source of support and information for new employees.
Performs related work and other duties as required.
