SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the director of systemwide athletics, the operations coordinator provides leadership, oversees and coordinates, the planning, implementation, monitoring and administration of the operations components of the interscholastic athletics program, including scheduling, security and game management, finances, facilities, transportation, and procurement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the MCPS policies and procedures dealing with student athletics and thorough knowledge of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Knowledge of current research and trends in athletics. Ability to work effectively with central services, principals, athletics specialists, athletic coordinators, coaches, athletic trainers, student-athletes, officials, and other stakeholders to ensure accountability with systemwide processes and expectations. Ability to conduct effective meetings for a wide variety of groups. Ability to manage multiple tasks on short notice with ever-changing priorities. Ability to lead and manage the middle school athletics program and operations aspects of the systemwide athletics program. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Ability to evaluate data and effectiveness of operational aspects of the systemwide athletics program to make the necessary improvements and drive innovation.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university with course work in administration, management, and supervision of a comprehensive athletics program. Experience as a teacher and professional experience in an athletics-related position. Minimum of three years of successful experience as an athletics specialist, assistant athletics specialist, coach, or similar athletic leadership position. Experience implementing local, state, and federal policies and regulations. Experience leading committees and preparing/implementing large meetings. Experience working with outside organizations and stakeholders, including officiating associations, municipal facility directors, local civic and municipal athletic associations, etc. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of the following national certification requirements through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA): Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) within first 6 months of hire, Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) within the first two years of hire, Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) within the first five years of hire. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job, in various environments and work conditions. Standing, sitting, walking, jogging, and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) are essential functions. Sometimes transporting materials to meetings and sites.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent evening and weekend activities, especially supervision of after school/weekend athletic activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promotes the R.A.I.S.E. core values of the MCPS systemwide athletics program.

Promotes equity across the athletics program, to ensure practices and operations that support the core values of equity and access for all students.

Oversees and supervises the scheduling of systemwide athletic contests for both high schools and middle schools.

Analyzes programs relative to participation and cost, in order to maximize the efficiency of operations.

Serves as the primary contact for contest officials¿ assignors, commissioners, and associations.

Manages all aspects of the middle school athletics program, including scheduling, transportation, finances, and the support of school athletic department personnel.

Plans and coordinates all aspects of game management and spectator safety and security at the systemwide and school levels.

Plans and implements emergency action plans for countywide events, in collaboration with the health and safety coordinator for systemwide athletics.

Works collaboratively with multiple offices and schools to monitor, and implement the afterschool safety and supervision plan, consistent with MCPS policies and procedures.

Serves as the liaison with the department of systemwide safety and security and Montgomery County Police Department.

Keeps abreast of local, state, and national literature/developments in order to affect changes in operation as necessitated by changes in society, business, education, etc.

Utilizes technological resources to promote the athletics program and effectively communicate with all stakeholders across the program regarding operational matters.

Collaborates and coordinates with the department of facilities management, including maintenance and construction of athletic facilities and the supervision of the artificial turf program.

Supervises the creation and analysis of a systemwide financial report.

Represents the school system in multiple capacities, including the state finance committee.

Oversees assigned distributed leadership committees to enhance and support the leadership of athletics specialists, athletic coordinators, and others to drive program growth and innovation.

Oversees all aspects of game admissions and digital ticketing.

Manages and serves as the accountant for all postseason gate receipts and expenses, serving in the capacity of district treasurer.

Assists with the technological aspects of the systemwide interscholastic athletics program, keeping abreast of changes/developments in technology; in order to affect changes in program operations, including the NFHS Network, and video editing software.

Assists with scheduling, preparing, and administering many meetings, including monthly athletics specialists meetings, athletic coordinators meetings, pre- and post-season coaches meetings, and principals meetings.

Serves on various county and state committees or task forces.

Serves as a liaison between Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery County Parks, and Montgomery County Recreation Department.

Works with municipal administrators in securing public facilities, including swimming pools, indoor track, and golf courses and coordinates and administers events as appropriate.

Monitors compliance for athletic facilities; coordinates the use of athletic facilities by school, other agencies, and community members; assists in preparing appropriate forms to meet the requirements of the Interagency Coordinating Board.

Keeps abreast of and provides input on the construction and renovation of MCPS facilities.

Works with other internal and external stakeholders in monitoring program safety and security, including leading the afterschool design team.

Plans and ensures that transportation to events is scheduled in alignment with MCPS policies and regulations.

Collaborates and coordinates with the Division of Procurement to ensure the best possible equipment, uniforms, and supplies across the systemwide program, in order to promote student-athlete health and safety and maximize fiscal operations.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
