WORKING TITLE: Coordinator, Needwood Academy Alternative Program GRADE: N MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, coordinates the educational program at Needwood Academy, the alternative level 2 high school program. Duties include intake and exit transition meetings, MCPS curriculum implementation, local and state testing, and professional development. Applies knowledge from current research in the areas of alternative education, PBIS, early intervention/problem solving, truancy and drop-out prevention, and school connectedness. Monitors the implementation of systempolicies, regulations, and procedures . Provides leadership for student discipline and crisis management. Supervises and evaluates staff. Solicits and coordinates interagency and parental involvement with alternative program students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of MSDE and system policies, regulations, and procedures, Baldrige/school improvement planning process, , the MCPS Program of Studies, state and federal laws, curriculum, instruction, school operations, student services, and resources and services available to parents and students. Demonstrated problem-solving skillsand ability to motivate, encourage and work with staff to promote outstanding performance and good morale. Excellent communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, alternative education, educational administration or curriculum development. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: State of Maryland requirements for Administrator I, elementary, secondary, or special education principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Availability to work overtime, evenings or weekends if required to do so.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyze, share, and use school and student data to develop and implement school improvement plans.

Implement systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness consistent with system policies, regulations, and procedures, state and federal laws.

Identify staff training needs and develop professional development plans.
Develop teaching assignments/schedules, student schedules, and operational structure.

Prepare a variety of written reports and correspondence.

Coordinate the development and implementation of a program discipline plan, consistent with the system policies, regulations, and procedures.

Assume responsibility of specific areas of administration and management assigned by the supervisor of Alternative Programs.

Deal promptly and positively with behavioral problems.

Participate in intake and exit meetings and suspension/appeal hearings.

Develop requests for staffing and other resources.

Serve on MCPS task forces and committees, as assigned.

Observe and evaluate staff.

Work with students/parents and staff to ensure appropriate programming for all students,
Establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with other community agencies to ensure ongoing, two-way communication and to initiate activities that foster productive parent and community involvement.

Assists the supervisor in organizing community partnerships
