WORKING TITLE: Assistant to the Associate Superintendent, Office of Operations GRADE: N MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under the general direction of the associate superintendent of operations, assists in the administration and coordination of the work of the Office of Operations and of its departments and divisions with each other and with all other Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) offices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of or ability to learn quickly the school system organization, operation, and office management. Ability to analyze and compile data; write briefs, memoranda, and other correspondence for the associate superintendent, Board of Education, and a variety of internal/external stakeholders. Ability to manage and supervise, directly or indirectly, several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently ensuring assigned tasks are completed in a timely fashion. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong technology skills. Knowledge and application of the professional growth systems for MCPS. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with school officials, parents, staff, and others. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required. Five or more years of experience working in a variety of environments providing project, team management and leadership preferred. Coursework or training in project management processes, facilitative leadership, or other applicable fields desired. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Requires frequent work with computers and media equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) May be required to work evenings to attend committee, community, or other meetings.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in planning for and maintaining the smooth functioning of the Office of Operations; shares responsibility for the office mission.
Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, and other documents; investigates problems or topics; and gathers and analyzes data for the associate superintendent.

Appropriately follows up on community, parent, Board of Education, and other requests as directed by the associate superintendent; resolves constituent concerns.

Leads and manages projects, both large and small, for a variety of systemwide initiatives and programs, such as the development of the school year calendar, in collaboration with other internal and external offices.

Facilitates stakeholder advisory committees and work groups around key initiatives.

Demonstrates the core values of the school district as it relates to interaction and collaboration with staff and community.

Researches information, attends events, gathers data, and communicates with other departments to compose and edit necessary documents such as reports and newsletters.

Prepares/oversees agenda/talking points for specific meetings and special events.

Serves on committees as designated by the associate superintendent.

Assists in supervising and evaluating administrative support staff and coordinating the day-to-day office activities.

Maintains knowledge of Board of Education action pertinent to the operation of the office.

Participates in the development of the budget, including the development and review of all of its components, and assists the associate superintendent by providing information for support of budget requests.

Demonstrates the core values of the school district as it relates to interaction and collaboration with staff and community.

Works collaboratively with office and school system colleagues to ensure the work is complete on time and with high-quality.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
