EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with the department directors and their staff in coordinating activities of the departments in the Office of Special Education (OSE) and acts as a liaison with other central services offices.Participates in planning for and maintaining the smooth functioning of OSE; prepares a variety of correspondence, reports, and other documents for the Board of Education, MCPS offices and schools, and community members and organizations; investigates problems or topics; and gathers and analyzes data for the associate superintendent.Promotes positive public relations with MCPS staff, parents, county and community agencies, and the general public; represents OSE at various school system and community meetings.Appropriately follows up with community, parent, Board of Education, and other requests as directed by the associate superintendent.Participates and/or chairs numerous committees frequently acting as recorder and often responsible for drafting and editing the committee's reports, and for follow-up planning and action on committee responsibilities.Participates in the development of the budget, including the development and review of all of its components, and assists the associate superintendent by providing information for support of budget requests, changes, and adjustments from initiation to adoption. Maintains knowledge of Board of Education policies and actions pertinent to the operation of the office. Responds to questions from schools, central services offices, and community members about programs, directing inquiries to appropriate individuals or following up directly.Appraises the effectiveness of secretarial staff in terms of individual performance.Reviews correspondence with the associate superintendent on a daily basis, takes action as appropriate; suggests agenda items for various regularly scheduled meetings.Organizes and manages special projects according to OSE or MCPS needs.Problem solves and resolves complaints, informing and advising the associate superintendent of imminent problems and concerns.Performs related work as required.
