WORKING TITLE: Executive Assistant, School System Medical Officer GRADE: O MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Assists the school system medical officer (SSMO) with oversight and implementation of initiatives, projects, strategic planning and communications in matters related to the health of students, staff and families within Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Supports the SSMO¿s planning and facilitation of preventative measures for safeguarding MCPS students' health and overall medical well-being of the MCPS community members and their families. Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports; project plans; and presentations for the SSMO. Represents and/or supports the SSMO in communications and collaboration with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), community partners, medical professionals and other pertinent organizations to keep abreast of health metrics, trends, knowledge and important information related to the mental health and well-being of the MCPS community. Supports the SSMO in the planning and implementing measures required to mitigate and address medical needs and health-related concerns as they arise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of standard principles, ethics and best practices related to medical field and/or pertaining to public health matters; knowledge of medical and health-related issues impacting public school systems. Ability obtain and analyze relevant data. Ability to provide guidance and work collaboratively with all schools, school administration and MCPS leaders. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies, and procedures related to medical or health related issues. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies. Knowledge of practical and conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to lead and facilitate meetings or work groups. Ability to research, understand, and evaluate instructional programs and methodologies for effectiveness in meeting school improvement targets. Ability to use data-driven decision-making to determine effectiveness of medical/health measures and initiatives. Excellent organizational, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in relevant field, such as public health, health services research, children's health or education. Minimum of 2-3 years of leadership experience. Experience supporting or leading organization(s) in health initiatives, healthcare, and/or public health preferred. Extensive experience in thinking quickly and solving problems, data analysis, and writing/editing reports and presentations. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Requires the ability to work long hours and withstand moderate amounts of stress in order to maintain a healthy physical and social emotional state of well-being. Frequent evening or weekend work attending meetings.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with cross-office work among central services to ensure aligned resources and support to the MCPS community in medical/health matters.

Provides support to the SSMO in planning and implementing initiatives and taking necessary action to address health- and medical- related concerns, urgent needs and preventative measures.

Responds to school-based and central office staff by providing health/medical information; policy interpretations, measures required to address immediate or long-term medical related needs and initiatives.

Prepares/oversees agendas/talking points for daily meetings, Board of Education meetings, and special events.

Responds to questions from Board members, parents, principals, and community members.

Assists with the development and maintenance of policies and regulations for which the SSMO is responsible. Represents the SSMO on selected committees and at assigned meetings, plans, and makes presentation as requested.

Collaborates with executive staff, administration, MCPS offices, DHHS, community partners, medical professionals and other pertinent organizations.

Facilitates, organizes and/or supports systemwide professional learning relevant to the work of the office of the SSMO.

Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports.

Performs other duties as assigned.
