SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Assists the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) in the handling of responsibilities related to educational leadership to ensure alignment of school system priorities with the systemwide and office strategic plans. Manages systemwide continuous improvement initiatives including grant acquisition and seeking out innovative programs aligned with school system priorities. Directs the development/revisions of policies and procedures and legislative items related to the CAO's office. Directs the communications from the CAO's office to public, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Collects and analyzes data to inform educational decisions and best practices; provides support and assistance to associates and other staff reporting to the Chief with Board of Education presentations and papers, data collection, aligning work to the school system goals, strategic planning, and major initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of project management, strategic planning, change management, grant acquisition, facilitation of high-performing teams, organizational theories, and trends in continuous improvement. Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, communication, and data analysis skills. Ability to effectively work with community stakeholders and school and system leaders to implement and monitor programs and initiatives. Ability to prepare and deliver papers and presentations and present in public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, business or public administration, policy, communications, or other related field. Minimum of 7 years outstanding experience as a manager or school-based and/or central office administrator, and evidence of progressive leadership responsibilities with 4 years of experience in education (preferably K to 12 systems). Extensive experience with project management or strategic planning. Experience utilizing strategic models for developing and monitoring key work processes and key performance indicators, development and acquisition of grants. Knowledge of educational policy and experience in development and implementation of policy/regulations in K to 12 systems (preferred). Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

Supports the development, revision, and monitoring of strategic plans, policies and procedures, and major areas of work in the CAO's office.
Supports in the capacity development of staff within the CAO's office in project management and strategic delivery systems to further the key bodies of work in the office.

Directs and coordinates cross-office bodies of work such as placement of programs in schools over time and response to major reports.

Responds to questions from Board members, parents, principals, and community members regarding instructional issues and related policies.

Researches opportunities for grants aligned to key priorities for the office and the district.

Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares reports for the chief and executive staff.

Prepares/oversees agenda/talking points for daily meetings and special events.

Assists with the development and maintenance of policies and regulations for which the CAO is responsible.

Presents at meetings as requested by the CAO.

Represents the Office of the CAO on selected committees and at assigned meetings.

Collaborates with associates on Board of Education papers, presentations, and other projects.

Collects and analyzes systemwide educational test and assessment results and makes collaborative recommendations for adjustments in educational initiatives and budget support based on student results.

Collaborates with offices to seek out innovative programs aligned with school system priorities.

Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
