WORKING TITLE: Team Leader, Facilities Architect GRADE: M MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION; PHYSICAL DEMANDS; AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Summary Description: Under the guidance of the Director, provides leadership, coordination, and support for the design and construction of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) facilities. Oversees the development of architectural and engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates prepared by consulting engineers and architects, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and standards. Serves as a local leader to inspire, represent design excellence, and reinforce core values of the division and overall school district. Physical Demands: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of architectural principles and practices and their application to public sector construction, specifically K-12 education. Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, ordinances, and regulations. Strong understanding of sustainable design, the market, industry trends, and industry leaders. Demonstrated technical skills on major capital projects, alteration, and maintenance-related projects. Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Ability to prioritize ongoing and multiple projects, to address multiple tasks, technical issues, and contingencies at the same time, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, central office staff, consultants, and contractors. Knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Education Training Experience:Bachelor^s degree from an accredited university with a preferred major in architecture, engineering, or a related field. Extensive experience in architectural or engineering planning, demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Professional Architect or Engineers License, Registered in the State of Maryland

Reviews, edits, corrects, and interprets drawings, plans, and specifications. Engages in creative and critical thought through diagramming and writingWorks on a variety of K-12 projects from design through construction administration and mentors others who are emerging leaders within the Division Prepares preliminary estimates of the costs of specific architectural, electrical, or mechanical systems projects.Provides technical assistance and support to building maintenance operations, and for in-house projects involving alterations to existing installations. Coordinates design phase studies, reports, and field surveys.Schedules, facilitates, and conducts community meetings with stakeholders and project design professionals.Makes presentations to community groups, senior management, the Board of Education, and other public officials, relating to assigned projects.Prepares preliminary estimates of the costs of specific architectural, electrical, or mechanical systems projects.Provides technical assistance and support to building maintenance operations, and for in-house projects involving alterations to existing installations.Coordinates design phase studies, reports and field surveys.Schedules, facilitates and conducts community meetings with users and project design professionals.Makes presentations to community groups, senior management, the Board of Education, and other public officials, relating to assigned projects.
