Summary Description:
Under the guidance of the Director, provides leadership, coordination, and support for the design and construction of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) facilities. Oversees the development of architectural and engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates prepared by consulting engineers and architects, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and standards. Serves as a local leader to inspire, represent design excellence, and reinforce core values of the division and overall school district.

Thorough knowledge of architectural principles and practices and their application to public sector construction, specifically K-12 education. Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, ordinances, and regulations. Strong understanding of sustainable design, the market, industry trends, and industry leaders. Demonstrated technical skills on major capital projects, alteration, and maintenance-related projects. Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Ability to prioritize ongoing and multiple projects, to address multiple tasks, technical issues, and contingencies at the same time, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, central office staff, consultants, and contractors. Knowledge and application of the six leadership standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Association of Administrators and Principals (MCAAP/MCBOA) Professional Growth System (PGS).

Education Training Experience:Bachelor^s degree from an accredited university with a preferred major in architecture, engineering, or a related field. Extensive experience in architectural or engineering planning, demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Professional Architect or Engineers License, Registered in the State of Maryland
