SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction from the Department of Districtwide Professional Learning, a two-year position funded by the Maryland Leads grant, the coordinator provides leadership in program/project planning designing and implementing districtwide professional learning that will support all staff to create an antiracist, equitable, and inclusive school district where all students, families, and staff feel safe, valued, seen, heard, and successful. The coordinator oversees and engages in the analysis and evaluation of districtwide professional learning and its effectiveness and leads efforts for continuous improvement. The coordinator will collaborate and coordinate with multiple offices and schools to support and provide professional learning that aligns with the system strategic plan, priorities, and initiatives and is grounded in antiracism and equitable teaching and learning. There is a significant component of coaching and supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of learning teams. The coordinator will be responsible for planning coordinating, and facilitating systemwide meetings and strategic planning sessions. In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for performing a wide variety of professional development roles including, but not limited to: trainer, coach, consultant, resource provider, facilitator and project manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: A strong instructional leader with the ability to design, develop, conduct and/or facilitate professional learning; demonstrated best practices in a variety of leadership methods. Strong understanding of the research and best practices for antiracist and culturally responsive adult learning. Thorough knowledge of MCPS Strategic Plan and priorities. Knowledge of adult learning theory, effective differentiation strategies, equitable, and culturally relevant practices. Strong and engaging skills as a coach, trainer, and facilitator; interest in and ability to work collaboratively on a high performing team. Knowledge of the school improvement process including conducting an antiracist and culturally responsive root cause analysis, identifying an appropriate instructional focus, developing, implementing and monitoring a professional learning action plan, collecting and analyzing a variety of data to monitor progress. Ability to forge positive relationships with staff and community based on transparent, two-way meaningful communications. Skill in communicating and providing engaging adult learning opportunities. Demonstrated comprehensive project and process management skills utilizing information technology systems. Ability to manage multiple complex projects and achieve results within required time, functionality, performance, quality and budget requirements. Ability to successfully collaborate with staff across offices and schools and of various levels. Ability to analyze formal and informal data to set goals and action plans. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, time management, project management, and human relations skills. Strong presentation skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on teaching, school leadership, curriculum, and/or instruction or at least five years of relevant work experience. Demonstrated leadership in equity, coaching, supporting teachers and school improvement. Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering professional learning for adult learners; excellent human relation skills.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in a teaching area required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Must be able to move materials/equipment to and from different training sites.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs, develops, and implements professional learning for both central office and school-based staff that is aligned to the system priorities. Leads cross-office work among central services staff to ensure aligned resources and support to offices and schools. Guides and supports central services staff to develop and implement learning progressions that align with system priorities. Provides coaching support to both central office and school-based learning teams, including the development and evaluation of the teams. Collaborates with professional learning leaders in building professional learning teams through various efforts and across offices working with the various different department leadership teams, and engaging and training staff through executive staff meetings, retreats, institutes, and other professional growth activities. Researches, writes, edits, and reviews correspondence and prepares communications and reports relevant to the work. Gathers and analyzes feedback, data and learning outcomes and works to continuously improve districtwide professional learning methods, programs and teaching materials. Engages all bargaining units to maintain effective and consistent communication; obtain feedback and integrates suggestions as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
