EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements a plan for expanding the array of student leadership opportunities throughout the system, with a focus on increasing diversity among student leaders. Provides information, advice, and support to students exercising their rights of due process. Coordinates and supervises the development and operation of the activities of the countywide student government organizations, the Montgomery County Region (MCR) of the Maryland Association of Student Councils and the Montgomery County Junior Councils (MCJC).Maintains and supervises an office and historical and financial records, and provides secretarial/clerical support services for MCR and MCJC. Develops and manages operating budgets, grant application and budgets, and other program funds is well-informed about financial policies and procedures, and systems.Maintains reciprocal relationships with representatives from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), the Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC), Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE), institutions of higher learning, nonprofit corporations, community service organizations, and government agencies. Attends fall and spring conventions and conferences of the Maryland Association of Student Councils and coordinates the chaperoning responsibilities for the county delegation. Develops and maintains a communications network for student government advisors and other activity advisors.Advises the superintendent and Board of Education (BOE) on the need for new and/or revised policies related to the general student welfare. Informs and advises the superintendent regarding programs, practices and problems of students, and keeps the Associate superintendent informed of the activities operating under the Board's authority.Coordinates the advertising, applications, and selection process for the Maryland Legislature Student Page Program as well as other designated field experience programs and contests.Serves as a resource to local school administrators, student government organizations, and activity advisors.Reviews, evaluates and recommends updates/changes to MCPS policies and procedures in accordance with legislative actions, regulations and best practices in school health services.Represents Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) at district, state, and national programs, meetings, and conferences such as: Maryland Association of Student Councils, Maryland Leadership Workshops, National Association of Student Councils, Maryland State Department of Education, Community Youth Advisory Committees, Student Emerging Leaders Programs, and Drive for Supplies Project.Represents the student point of view to MCPS staff members when requested.Identifies and recommends appropriate student candidates for BOE's and superintendents advisory committees, task forces, and work groups.Writes grant applications, manages budgets and other funds, and is well-informed about financial policies and procedures, and systems.Coordinates the annual election of the student member of the BOE.Supervises staff in the development and implementation of the MCPS SSL program.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
