WORKING TITLE: Coordinator, Strategic Initiatives GRADE: N MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction of the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Programs, the coordinator of strategic initiatives has the responsibility to research best practices, and to explore innovative strategies and programs focused on delivering curriculum, instruction, and student services in more effective ways. Collaborates with the offices of the Superintendent of Schools, School Support and Improvement, and the Chief Operating Officer to ensure integration and alignment to the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) strategic plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of educational research and best instructional practices, and how to apply these to school and classroom. Demonstrated ability to work with central services and school-based staff members. Demonstrated ability to design and manage cross-functional project teams. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master of Arts/Master of Education or equivalency in any one of the content areas or administration, curriculum, supervision, or educational leadership. Experience in the development of interdisciplinary programs and curriculum for students. Experience in developing and managing prototypes and field testing programs. Experience in application of technology to classroom instruction. Experience in staff development and in-service training (both design and delivery). Experience using research and benchmarking to create improvements in practice in central services and schools. Experience in teaching and/or school-based leadership. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrative and Supervisory certification or will be eligible for certification within 12 months of assuming the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Frequent night meetings, weekend work, and extended work hours.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports the vision and strategy for innovation within the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Programs.

Designs and develops programs, and field tests related to Social Emotional Learning and Creative Problem Solving.

Coordinates with central services and school-based staff members on innovation initiatives.

Reviews current innovative programs and initiatives in MCPS and makes recommendations for next steps.

Partners with nonprofits and community organizations around technological innovations and curricular advances.

Applies for grants and seed funding for innovation projects.

Coordinate cross-functional teams to re-design existing programs.

Collaborates with the Office of Shared Accountability on both formative and summative evaluation of innovation efforts.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
