WORKING TITLE: Supervisor, Editorial, Graphics and Publishing Services GRADE: O MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, supervises all daily activities within the Editorial, Graphics and Publishing Services (EGPS) unit. This includes the graphic content and composition, central duplicating and printing, and school copier maintenance work groups. Identifies, develops and maintains the unit¿s mission, and the creative and technical objectives required for sustained success. Coordinates directly with inter-office and inter-agency project teams in support of instructional, administrative and communications initiatives. Supervises all staff in the various functional areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: : Strong working knowledge of graphic arts and visual communications in cross-media environments. Expert knowledge in Web-based and print media graphic content development. Ability to lead staff meetings, work under pressure, and respond to strict deadlines. Ability to collaborate with various offices within MCPS and provide advice to customers on work requests. Excellent planning, organization, management, communications and interpersonal skills. Strong writing ability. Ability to prepare budgets and financial forecasts. Ability to monitor the financial aspects of the operation and adjust services as necessary. Knowledge of MCPS policies and procedures and procurement and purchasing practices. Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate staff. Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Service Professional Growth System and the leadership standards of the A&S Professional Growth System.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required from an accredited college in fine arts or graphic communication. Masters degree preferred from an accredited university in the field of education, with coursework in graphics arts and production highly desirable. Minimum of 10 years of management experience in a professional setting providing visual communication arts management, and cross-media production Experience working with government and community members in the application of publications and programs. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises all staff and the products produced by EGPS. Reviews work load with leadership team.
2. Demonstrates through leadership and role modeling high expectations, positive relationships, and cultural competence, as well as a strong commitment to professional development for all staff.
3. Prepares the annual budget. Responsible for maintaining and supervising all budgeting and spending for all accounts. This includes both MCPS operating and entrepreneurial accounts. Reviews program operation for cost effectiveness and adjusts as necessary.
4. Serve as the representative at various MCPS and County Government meetings.
5. Collaborates closely with the Superintendent¿s Office and the Information Office for communications.
6. Develops policies, procedures, and operational guidelines for the EGPS Unit.
7. Keeps abreast of new ideas in fine and commercial art, duplication, and publishing services and new technology offerings, through membership and participation in professional organizations. Reviews recent literature and research studies and reports. Evaluates findings and suggests changes or modifications to improve existing programs.
8. Monitors key process measures and adjusts work as necessary. Prepares progress reports and other types of reports that demonstrate the successful work of the unit.
9. Performs other related work as required.
