EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and coordinates in-service professional development activities and workshops. Schedules courses, evaluates student progress and builds plans for academic and post high school success.Reviews and sets school counseling priorities.Cooperates with local and national government agencies. Prepares reports, and disseminates information regarding the trends identified by school counselors. Assists in the selection of secondary resource counselors and of elementary and secondary school counselors (K to12) and supports principals in the evaluation of counselors. Monitors the implementation of school counseling programs, and confers with staff to provide feedback for essential program improvements. Prepares grant applications and manages program financial operations, approving and monitoring budget. Supervises the staff responsible for counseling and advising of students..Interviews, hires, elects, supervises, and evaluates counseling staff. Maintains and disseminates annual enrollment data pertaining to counseling the counseling program¿s effectiveness, college enrollment and scholarship monies.Assesses needs for school counseling services, which will enable students to achieve to their fullest potential in the educational program, K to 12.Establishes a school counseling philosophy, goals and objectives, and program for each educational level, along with models for the delivery of services.Designs and develops a program and makes regular improvements to assure high quality school counseling.Supports the principal in the evaluation of resource counselors and school counselors, by providing feedback regarding performance.Plans, develops, and coordinates credit and noncredit courses and workshops for counselors and school based administrators to support school counseling program implementation.Liaise with external partners that may serve as academic and behavioral health resources for counselors to use with students and parents.Evaluates the unit programs, plans for, and implements improvements as needed.Conducts school site visits, and shares information with school principals and the Office of Student and Family Support and Engagement, as appropriate.Maintains liaison with the MSDE, colleges and universities, and professional organizations, carrying out collaborative efforts that will be beneficial to MCPS students.Writes grant applications, manages monetary funds, and is well-informed about financial policies and procedures, and systems.Trains staff members in policies and procedures related to school counseling.Serves as a resource to parents who have questions/issues regarding school counseling and resolves their issues/complaints.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
