WORKING TITLE: Supervisor, Longview and Stephen Knolls Centers GRADE: O MONTHS: 12
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Under direction, provides the administration/supervision for the orderly operation of the centers' programs. Provides instructional leadership to assure a quality program in compliance with laws and policies for students with intellectual disability who may also require physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of special education policies and procedures which govern the delivery of services to students with disabilities. Thorough knowledge of infant, child, and adolescent behavior as it relates to students with intellectual disability. Thorough knowledge of developmental characteristics and instructional needs of children with intellectual disability. Knowledge and experience with related services, transition services, augmentative and assistive technology, and behavior management. Thorough knowledge of the Fundamental Life Skills Curriculum, the Alternate Maryland School Assessment and State Content Standards. Knowledge and experience in identifying and interpreting results of educational assessment tools appropriate for students with multiple disabilities. Knowledge of and experience implementing MCPS, state, and federal policies and procedures related to education of the disabled. Ability to coordinate and supervise a comprehensive educational program integrating the MCPS Program of Studies, related services, and services provided by outside agencies. Ability to organize a school program for students with disabilities. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in special education from an accredited college or university with related coursework in administration, supervision, and special education. Five years experience teaching students with disabilities. Experience as an assistant principal desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland certification requirements for supervisor or Administrator I and special education or related field.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Consults, plans, and evaluates with the director, Department of Special Education on the goals, objectives, and needs to support the centers' program. Assures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the operation of special education programs.

2. Consults and plans with central office staff members who serve in an advisory capacity in implementing changes in the instructional program.

3. Consults, plans, and evaluates with staff instructional goals and objectives involving revisions of techniques, methodology, and organization.

4. Attends workshops, seminars, and national and regional conferences in order to maintain knowledge and skills necessary to perform the functions of the program leader.

5. Reviews literature to maintain current knowledge of innovative practices and research projects.
Interprets the instructional program of the centers to the community. For example, meets with the PTA and parents study groups.

6. Coordinates the services of the physical, occupational, and speech therapists and the vision, auditory, and transition teachers.

7. Coordinates other community agencies such as the Department of Rehabilitative Services and the Department of Human Services.

8. Supervises staff regarding matters pertaining to instruction, certification, and evaluation; evaluates professional staff, develops and conducts in-service programs for staff members.

9. Supervises and evaluates effectiveness of supporting services personnel, including secretaries, building service workers, and cafeteria workers.

10. Procures, evaluates, and updates instructional materials, supplies, and equipment; distributes and supervises use of materials, supplies, and equipment; maintains accounting systems involving total financial operation of the school.

11. Organizes and coordinates the collection of student records and arranges for their review.

12. Provides for community-school use and/or programs and services.

13. Supervises pupil and staff accounting procedures.

14. Directs and participates in intensive interactions with students involving learning and behavior difficulties.

15. Participates/initiates intake/IEP/exit conferences; participates in CIEP; participates in conferences with private community agencies serving the student population.

16. Provides necessary support as required to satellite programs.
